What should a lease agreement contain?

The lease agreement is an important document that ensures the legal rights of both tenant and landlord and describes both parties’ obligations.

A standard lease agreement contains:

  • The name and address of both tenant and landlord
  • The address, size, inventory/fixtures, condition and right of use of the rental property
  • Information regarding the tenancy: Move in date, termination date if relevant, rent, deposit, prepaid rent, means of payment and extra expenses
  • Rules of maintenance, reconditioning upon termination of lease, pets and rules of tenancy
